Design for print
Course
In this course I learned about designing for digitally printed fabrics. Of the prints I designed, one would be selected to be printed and given to a student in the Apparel department for their use.
Design
During this time I was very interested in fractals in nature. For inspiration I mainly drew from the sycamore trees that I walked by every day. I examined the bark, the leaves, and the branches. From there, I made rubbings, tracings, and sketches. For the color palette I was inspired by the colors of autumn at dusk which I saw every night when I walked home after this class.
We were tasked to create two all-over patterns, and one engineered pattern. Below are the final patterns I designed. Ultimately, the blue fractal pattern was chosen to be printed, and was given to Daniela Czenstochowski. Above is the romper she designed and made, modeled by Martín Gutierrez.
